Adjusted bearing arrangement
Angestellte Lagerung
An adjusted bearing arrangement is one of the three basic shaft location principles alongside locating/non-locating and floating arrangements. Two mirror-image bearings – typically tapered roller or angular contact ball bearings in back-to-back or face-to-face orientation – locate the shaft axially together, each supporting thrust in one direction. Axial clearance or preload is set during mounting by adjusting the bearings against each other via shaft nut, shims or housing cover.
It provides stiff, zero-clearance guidance with defined operating clearance or preload, improving running accuracy. Best suited to short shafts and bearing spans, since thermal shaft expansion directly changes the adjustment; over-tight setting causes overheating, too loose a setting causes unsteady running.
