As an axial cylindrical roller and cage assembly, this component forms the axial load-carrying roller set and supports very high axial loads. At 170x240x22 mm and a unit weight of 3.5 kg, the installation envelope is fixed; further technical details are held in the specification table. The cage holds the rollers at pitch and in radial position; the longitudinal force is carried by the faces against which the assembly is mounted.

The axial cylindrical roller and cage assembly consists solely of rollers and a cage; it brings no raceway with it but presupposes one in the surrounding design. The adjoining faces must therefore be hardened, ground and square to the axis — otherwise thrust washers should be provided, which take on the same task as a replaceable part. Dispensing with washers of its own gives the smallest possible axial section height and allows a load-carrying face of the design to be used directly as a raceway.

As with every axial roller arrangement, the roller slides relative to the raceway along its length, which is why speed, lubricant film and heat dissipation must be considered together and a minimum axial force should be present. Standard bearing steel provides the required rolling element hardness after heat treatment; for the design, the hardness and quality of the mating raceway faces matter as much as the rating of the assembly itself.
