Description
As a housed bearing unit, this product combines a housing with a ready-to-mount bearing insert. The specification table sets out the technical particulars on record. This unit is intended for lightly to moderately loaded positions at which weight and installed height count for more than the stiffness of the housing. In this version too the bearing position is complete as an assembly: the insert bearing already sits in the housing, the unit is bolted on and the shaft is locked by the fastening provided.
The difference lies in the housing body. A formed sheet steel part is lighter than a cast housing, builds lower and permits thinner walls; in return it is more compliant and damps vibration less. Two consequences follow for the designer. First, the stiffness of the bearing position shifts into the adjacent construction: an uneven, thin or inclined mounting face acts more directly on the position of the insert than it would with a cast body, and a backing plate or a stiffened zone at the bolting point is, in case of doubt, the simpler solution compared with a larger size.
Second, the design is laid out for moderate load and for operation without appreciable shock loading — on fans, light drives, attachments and lightly loaded conveying equipment. The insert bearing sits with its spherical outer surface in the housing and aligns itself to the shaft during mounting; its rings and rolling elements are made of standard bearing steel.
The single seal closes the rolling chamber in one stage and covers dry to moderately dusty surroundings; for continuous water or abrasive dust, a multi-stage seal is preferable. Corrosion protection of the sheet metal body has to be assured through coating or through the environment.
