Description
As a housed bearing unit, this product combines a housing with a ready-to-mount bearing insert. The available technical details for this bearing are given in the specification table. Three sealing stages in series: this version is meant for bearing positions at which dust, water and cleaning agents are permanently present. The triple seal stages the protection of the rolling chamber across several barriers in series.
The idea behind it is simple and readily observed in service: each stage intercepts part of the ingress, and the last stage, immediately at the rolling chamber, works only against what is left. Wear is thereby shifted outwards, where it does less harm, and the overall service life of the seal rises. This version is intended for bearing positions under permanent exposure to dust, water or cleaning agents, as occur in processing plant, wash-down installations, agricultural equipment and food processing — that is, where a single-stage seal wears out as a matter of course and the bearing position with it.
The counterpart is a higher frictional torque and therefore heat, which is why speed and operating temperature are to be checked against the data for the size in question; with a multi-stage seal, any relubrication facility present also belongs in the maintenance plan, since grease supplies the sealing stages themselves as well. The rest of the construction corresponds to the bearing unit: the insert bearing is mounted in the grey cast iron body, sits with its spherical outer surface in the housing's spherical seat and aligns itself to the shaft as it is bolted on, while the flange leads the force over an area into the adjacent construction.
The rings and rolling elements of the insert are made of standard bearing steel. In the selection, alongside the bore diameter, the bolt pattern and the shaft locking, the overall width and the clearance at the end faces should also be checked, since a staged seal needs space.
