As an angular contact ball bearing, this bearing carries combined radial and one-directional axial loads and is often used in pairs. The dynamic load rating of 69 kN characterises this bearing. The static load rating is 54 kN. The inclined line of force action remains the same as in the open version; what is added is the frictional torque of the seal lip and the temperature limit of its material.

This version carries a contact seal on both sides, bearing against a counterface on the inner ring and closing the rolling chamber off from its surroundings. In practice this shifts responsibility: the lubricant is charged into the bearing and stays there, dust, wear debris and splash water do not reach the inclined contact areas of ball and raceway, and the adjacent construction does not have to form a tight grease chamber.

For bearing positions with no relubrication provided for — in tools, pumps, drive heads and adjusting units — that is frequently the reason this version is chosen. The counterpart is a rise in frictional torque, since the lip rubs and releases heat; the permissible speed therefore lies below that of an open version of the same size, and the operating temperature is additionally limited by the seal material and its resistance to the media present.

The sealing changes nothing about the force path: the single-row angular contact ball bearing still transmits axial force in one direction only, produces an internal axial component under radial load, and therefore needs a second bearing position acting in opposition. The normal radial clearance recorded names the standard class; the arrangement only becomes stiff or compliant through the setting of the bearing pair.

Rings and balls are made of through-hardened standard bearing steel, whose hardness and dimensional stability cover the usual operating temperature range.
