The low-contact seal on both sides lies between the two familiar designs: it brings the lip up to the inner ring, but with markedly less contact pressure than a version laid out for tightness.

The low-contact seal on both sides occupies the gap between a non-contacting and a contacting version, and its properties follow directly from that intermediate position. The elastomeric sealing body brings a lip up to the shoulder or groove of the inner ring, but with a light contact pressure: a considerable part of the ingress of dust and spray moisture is thereby prevented without accepting the load-independent frictional torque of a lip laid out for tightness.

The permissible speed and the warming of the position accordingly lie between the two neighbouring designs and are to be taken from the designation, because they cannot be derived from the design description alone. A further difference concerns the behaviour over time: a lightly pressed lip is subject to slower wear, so the barrier effect stays more uniform than in a heavily pressed version, whose effect is higher at the outset and declines with the operating hours.

For flushed or continuously wetted positions a contact version or an upstream seal remains the applicable choice. Increased clearance (C3) holds an allowance ready for the shares that consume the mounted clearance — interference fit, external temperature gradient and the small heat contribution of the lip — so that a residual clearance remains in the warm running state without preloading the rolling contact.

The grease charge is enclosed and dimensioned for the service life; relubrication is not foreseen.
