As a CARB toroidal roller bearing, this bearing carries high radial loads, accommodates misalignment and permits axial displacement. The dynamic load rating of 425 kN characterises this bearing. The static load rating is 465 kN. The limiting speed is 4800 rpm. Long, slightly crowned rollers between toroidal raceways permit two things at once: alignment under misalignment and axial displacement of the rings relative to each other.

The toroidal roller bearing carries load through a row of long, slightly crowned rollers between toroidally shaped raceways. Two properties follow from this geometry that otherwise call for separate components: the roller set aligns itself under misalignment and shaft deflection, and the inner and outer rings can move axially relative to each other without the rolling contact losing its position on the raceway.

A single bearing position therefore takes on the non-locating duty: thermal expansion of the shaft is compensated inside the bearing rather than by the outer ring travelling in the housing seat, which avoids induced forces and fretting corrosion at the seating face. The design is laid out for radial load and takes no appreciable axial force — axial location belongs at the locating position.

The open form leaves sealing and lubrication to the surrounding construction; for the design, radial force, misalignment, the required displacement travel and the fits should be assessed together.
