Description
As a housed bearing unit, this product combines a housing with a ready-to-mount bearing insert. The specification table holds the available technical details in full. A grey cast iron housing, an insert bearing in standard bearing steel and an upstream flinger disc form a ready-mounted bearing position here. In this version, a co-rotating flinger disc is placed upstream of the seal.
It sits on the shaft or on the inner ring and uses the rotation to throw off approaching liquid and particles outwards instead of wiping them away at a lip. The difference shows in service: a lip seal works against everything that reaches it and wears accordingly; if the bulk of the ingress is flung off beforehand, distinctly less work is left for the actual sealing stage.
The arrangement is intended for bearing positions with splash water, regular cleaning, or material falling from above, as occur in materials handling, processing and agricultural equipment. Its limit lies at standstill and during start-up, since without rotation the flinger disc has no effect; the sealing stage behind it has to carry that condition alone, and with standing water or cleaning at standstill this has to be taken into account.
The rest of the construction corresponds to the bearing unit: the insert bearing is mounted in the grey cast iron body, sits with its spherical outer surface in the housing's spherical seat and thereby aligns itself to the shaft as it is bolted on; the force is introduced over an area through the flange into the adjacent construction. The rings and rolling elements of the insert are made of standard bearing steel.
For the selection, the bore diameter, the bolt pattern, the flange form, the type of shaft locking and the space around the flinger disc should be checked — the last of these is easily overlooked where the installation space is tight.
