As a spherical roller bearing, this bearing carries very high radial and axial loads and accommodates misalignment. This SNR bearing measures 150x320x108 mm and weighs 41.4 kg; the specification table carries the supplementary technical details. This variant features greatly increased radial clearance (C4). The spherical roller bearing is the type for heavy loads on shafts that deflect — it carries high load and aligns itself while doing so.

Two rows of barrel-shaped rollers run on a common spherical outer raceway. Because the centre of that curvature lies on the bearing axis, the inner ring assembly can swivel relative to the outer ring: shaft deflection and misalignment between two positions are absorbed without the rollers loading the raceway edges. Line contact gives very high radial capacity, and axial load is carried in both directions to a moderate degree.

That combination makes the type standard in heavy machinery, gearboxes, processing plant and pedestal mountings of long shafts. Watch the lubrication regime: high capacity does not help once the film between roller and raceway breaks down, which is why relubrication intervals and lubricant choice are explicitly part of design for this type.

The open version leaves sealing, initial filling and relubrication to the surrounding design, while keeping the rolling chamber accessible for a directed supply of lubricant. Rings and rolling elements are made of through-hardened standard bearing steel. The strongly increased radial clearance is intended for pronounced temperature differences between the rings or for very tight fits; without those conditions the bearing runs with unnecessary play.
