STC-Steyr NU3080 MPA Zylinderrollenlager (400x600x148)

As a cylindrical roller bearing, this bearing carries high radial loads with limited axial capacity. The mounting dimensions are 400x600x148 mm and the weight is 156 kg; technical details beyond these are shown in the specification table. The rolling principle here is that of the cylindrical roller bearing as well: a row of rollers in line contact, laid out for radial load and for a stiff bearing position.

Cylindrical roller bearings carry radial force through the line contact between roller and raceway. Compared with a ball bearing of the same size this yields a higher radial load capacity and a stiffer bearing position, but compared with a self-aligning bearing a markedly lower tolerance to misalignment: the roller row accepts only a few angular minutes before the contact pressure migrates to the roller ends, which is why the shaft seat and the housing bore must be aligned to one another.

The axial function of the bearing position follows from the rib arrangement on the inner and outer ring and not from the mounting situation — depending on the version the bearing displaces axially in service and takes up length compensation, or it supports the shaft in one or in both directions. Because the inner ring and the outer ring assembly are separable, the rings can be fitted independently and both executed with a tight seat.

No separate attributes for the sealing design or the clearance of these items are held in the catalogue. Both are to be taken from the type designation and the specification table of the individual item, since both bear directly on the layout: the sealing design decides whether the surrounding construction has to protect the rolling chamber, and the clearance class decides how much radial play the interference fit and the temperature gradient may consume before the roller set goes into preload.
