Outer ring
Außenring
The outer ring is the outer bearing ring seated in the housing bore; its inner surface carries the raceway, its outside diameter forms the housing seat. It is made of hardened bearing steel and toleranced to ISO 492. With a rotating shaft the outer ring is stationary and sees point load, so a loose-to-transition housing fit suffices — easing mounting and allowing axial displacement at floating bearing positions. If the housing rotates (wheel hubs, rope sheaves), the ring sees circumferential load and needs a tight fit. Housing roundness and stiffness matter: a distorted bore deforms the ring and falsifies operating clearance.
