Radial bearing

Radial bearings primarily carry loads perpendicular to the shaft axis; their nominal contact angle lies between 0° and 45°. They form the largest bearing group: deep groove and angular contact ball bearings, cylindrical, tapered, spherical roller and needle roller bearings. Many also take limited axial load — deep groove ball bearings via raceway osculation, angular contact and tapered roller bearings in one direction by design. Type selection follows the load case: high speed favours ball bearings, heavy radial load cylindrical rollers, combined load tapered rollers, misalignment self-aligning types, tight radial space needle bearings. Sizing per ISO 281 uses the equivalent dynamic load against the dynamic load rating.
