FAG UC204 Spannlager (20x47x31)

As an insert (Y) bearing, this bearing is located on the shaft and used in a housing. This FAG bearing measures 20x47x31 mm and weighs 0.15 kg; the specification table carries the supplementary technical details. This variant features a contact seal. The insert bearing is made for mounting on a plain, unstepped shaft: it is locked in place rather than clamped between a shoulder and a nut.

An insert bearing combines two things: a wide inner ring locked onto a plain shaft, and a spherical outer ring that can swivel in its housing. The position therefore absorbs the alignment error that is unavoidable when mounting to sheet metal, castings or welded frames — the type exists for applications where the surrounding structure offers no raceway quality.

Depending on the version the inner ring is secured by grub screws, an eccentric locking collar or an adapter sleeve; what matters is that the shaft is clean and to size in the seating area, because the ring draws its entire grip from that joint. The swivel is for alignment on assembly, not for running: a misalignment that rotates continuously works the seal and shortens life.

The flinger in front throws off splash water and coarse contamination before it reaches the seal proper — a staged arrangement that markedly extends seal life in heavily contaminated surroundings.
