As an angular contact ball bearing, this bearing carries combined radial and one-directional axial loads and is often used in pairs. At 17x47x14 mm and a unit weight of 0.11 kg, the installation envelope is fixed; further technical details are held in the specification table. This variant features stainless steel. In an angular contact ball bearing the contact line between ball and raceway is inclined to the radial plane — hence its ability to transmit radial and axial load together.

The contact points on inner and outer ring do not face one another radially but are offset, so the line of force action runs through the bearing at an angle. This geometry allows radial and axial load to be transmitted at the same time, and it makes the position stiffer than a design whose line of action is radial. How much stiffer is settled only on assembly: what governs is the axial play resulting from fits, setting and thermal behaviour — from preload without play for high stiffness and close running accuracy to a defined residual play for heat-insensitive running.

The type tolerates misalignment within narrow limits only, because angular error walks the contact ellipse towards the raceway edge; seats must be aligned and accurate in form accordingly. The open version leaves sealing, initial filling and relubrication to the surrounding design, while keeping the rolling chamber accessible for a directed supply of lubricant.

The stainless steel version is intended for damp, wet or chemically loaded surroundings and for applications demanding freedom from rust; its load ratings sit somewhat below those of standard bearing steel. The normal radial clearance recorded corresponds to the standard class and suits ordinary fits and temperature conditions.
